Mangalore, Aug 9: As many as eight sand transportation trucks and a bull dozer were seized by a team of officials led by Assistant Commissioner Dr Ashok and Tahsildar Mohan Rao who raided a sand mining spot at Adam Kudru on the banks of Netravathi near Ullal on Saturday August 9 morning. Even the sand that was found stocked in the area has been seized.

Though there were a total of nine trucks in the spot, only one had a valid licence. The rest of the trucks were seized. The sand miners present at the spot along with some locals resisted seizure of the bull dozer on the grounds that they were used only for loading sand into the truck, but not for mining. As per rules sand mining using JCB is prohibited.

Rajesh Ferrao, who possesses the licence for sand mining in the area expressed his displeasure over the seizing of the bull dozer and made it clear that it was only used to load the sand from the boats to the trucks.

Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo who was in the area to take part in a function, visited the sand mining area and heard the problems of the locals.

Ullal police were also present to avert any untoward incident.
