MANGALURU: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has an ambitious project on its anvil – making all official processes online. If a proposal in this regard was implemented as per schedule, then the entire city corporation functioning will be computerized by August 15, 2016, said Mangaluru City South MLA J R Lobo.
He told reporters that applications and official procedures related to payment of property tax, water supply bills, birth/ death certificates, building license, tenders, contracts and all other processes will be made online within a year. “None of the city corporations in the state has implemented complete digitization so far. We will implement the project in MCC using various funds available with the City Corporation and grants from the government. Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS) has been entrusted as the nodal agency for the total computerization project,” Lobo said.
He said the move is aimed at bringing transparency in administration and also to expedite all official works in MCC. “Very soon, we will hold discussions in this regard to achieve the goal within a year. The process of awarding contracts for the implementation of the computerization project will be done through KEONICS,” he added.
The city corporation will also make provisions for the residents to make payments online, he said. “We want to see that people pay property tax, bills and submit applications without standing long queue. Hence, we are also chalking out plans to provide online payments in association with Corporation Bank,” he said.
