MANGALORE: Heli-tourism in the state can soon become a reality if a proposal discussed in the meeting chaired by tourism minister R V Deshpande here on Monday gets the approval.
Ashok Chowta, a city-based industrialist, has plans to buy a helicopter to operate between various tourist destinations, including pilgrimage centres, in the state. Chowta said this can be used to promote wellness tourism.
Apart from Deshpande, minister for forest, environment and ecology B Ramanatha Rai, minister for health and family welfare UT Khader, Mangalore City (South) MLA JR Lobo and MLC Ivan D’Souza, who were present at the meeting, welcomed the move.
Deshpande said that he will ensure that the heli-tourism proposal is approved.
Khader said that the state is all set to receive a major boost in heli-ambulance with a proposal to introduce the service in Bangalore. Khader said that helicopter owners are scheduled to meet government officials this week. “It is likely that they will be offered concession in parking fee. In response, they will have to provide us choppers when needed,” Khader said.
