Mangalore, October 8: The ‘Kerosene Free City’ campaign was launched on October 8th at Mangalore City Corporation by the district in charge Minister B Ramanath Rai by watering a plant.
LPG connection will be provided to each home’s with a view to make the city kerosene free. In this regard, special campaign will be organised on October 8, 9, 18 and 19. For those who avail kerosene oil through ration cards, LPG gas connections will be provided between 10.00 am to 4.30 pm.
Addressing the gathering B Ramanath Rai said,” Camps are set up to distribute LPG gas. Many trees will be saved and it is a eco friendly project. I wish all people avail this facility within this month.”
On this occasion, he symbolically handed over the LPG gas cylinder along with the cooking range to six beneficiaries.
MLA J R Lobo said, “I congratulate DC and all the corporation officials, municipal officials, bank and gas company officials for this initiative. Many poor people find hard to get house numbers and ration card. LPG gas facility has been deprived to the poor of the society. With this initiative, all will get LPG gas facility in Mangalore. We are aiming to provide LPG gas access to every household, and thereby trying to make our city kerosene free by November 1st.”
DC A B Ibrahim briefly said about the scheme that, “The project will cost Rs 4,000 per household. Leading banks including SCDCC Bank have come forward to provide loans to purchase gas kits. The main aim is to provide LPG connections to each house. People can pay Rs 200 as monthly instalments. But to avail the loan, customers have to submit documents to the bank and have to possess a bank account.”
