MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA J R Lobo reviewed Padil – Bajal Road Under Bridge (RUB) work on Monday. Both the elected representatives directed the MCC officials to maintain better coordination with the department of railways, to carry out the work efficiently.
Owing to technical problems, the MP and MLA visited the construction site MP directed the MCC officials to lend cooperation to the railway department. Also, the corporators should follow up the progress of the work from time to time.
Briefing reporters, the MP said much awaited work on Road Under Bridge (RUB) which was initiated in February has been facing technical hurdles. There was a need to shift the water supply pipes and to construct the service road, which should be done at the earliest, to prevent mudslide during rainy season.
The supply of basic amenities should not be affected. During the work, there was a mudslide recently resulting in a death of a worker. He felt coordination problem. The work is expected to be completed by October. But at the same time, care to be taken not to carry out poor work, in a bid to reach the deadline.
He said the Centre has sanctioned 4-5 way bridges this year. The main bridge at Padil National Highway will be made open for public by the end of June. Also, by the bridges at Baikampady and BC Road will be ready by the end of May.
The flyover work in Thokkottu and Pumpwell are expected to be ready by November. Revenue land problem in Thokkottu has been solved and the land in Pumpwell Circle needs to be handed over to NHAI.
The MP meanwhile said that a joint survey by the MCC and railway department is being carried out towards world class railway station. The proposal will be sent to the Central government.
Speaking on road development works, Nalin Kumar Kateel said that Rs 22 crore has been released towards BC road – Charmadi road work. Also, acquisition towards BC Road-Mani will be taken up shortly. Work on three- km road is pending in Shiradi Ghat and 10-km road is complete.
Tender has been invited for the second phase of the work. The Shiradi Ghat stretch will be open for vehicles by June.
Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo said that the present level of Road Under Bridge is very low and this will result in water flowing inwards during rainy season. Hence, possibilities of raising the base will be looked into.
However, decision regarding this will be taken in a technical meeting.Meanwhile, main water supply pipeline needs to be shifted, he said and added that there has been a delay by the side of MCC towards adapting a policy towards UGD connections. The issue will be finalised in a meeting to be held in MCC on Friday, he said.
Lobo said that he has directed the authority concerned to complete the concretisation on other portion of Bajal road.
