Mangalore: The state-of-the-art equipment for blood component separation unit granted by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) was inaugurated by Congress leader and former minister Dr M. Veerappa Moily at Lady Goschen Hospital on Saturday, October 18.
On the occasion Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader unveiled a plaque as part of foundation laying ceremony for a 60 beded MCH wing at Government Hospital in Mangalore.
The programme was presided over by Mangalore South MLA J.R. Lobo.
Speaking on the occasion Dr M. Veerappa Moily stated “I appreciate the initiative taken by DK Unit of Indian Red Cross Society in striving hard towards installation of new equipment which focuses on preventing wastage of blood. Being known as ‘land of intelligent people’ we must also focus on converting our region as a Healthy District. The government with the help of various organizations and like-minded people is ready to provide monetory and moral support to implement new health schemes. The representatives and medical practitioners must plan out holistic healthcare systems which cater to the need of people.”
Dr Moily also requested the health minster to take certain measures to implement care units which works towards eradicating the problems of neonatal deaths in the region.
In response to the requests of Dr Moily, Health Minister U T Khader said “The Health ministry has taken all the steps towards implementing health related projects such as Health App and Accident Insurance Schemes. The ministry will definitely conduct a study on neonatal deaths reported in the region and will bring our certain measures to solve the problem.”
“Ministry is all set to bring ‘Health Revolution’ in Karnataka which focuses on creating a healthy environment. The ministry also focuses on developing the Lady Goschen Governmental Hospital which has conducted 6000 successful child births in a year, which sets a record number” he added further.
On the occasion Dr M. Veerappa Moily, Minister U T Khader and Chief Manager of BPCL Pradeep K Iyengar were felicitated by the guests.
Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, Former Chairman of MUDA Tejomaya, Superintendent of Lady Goschen M.M. Shakuntala, Chairman of IRCS – DK Unit Prabhakar Sriyan, Vice-President Ronald Anil Fernandes, Drug Controller Raghurama Bhandary and others were present on the occasion.
