Mangaluru: MLA J R Lobo attended the day-long hunger strike staged by Netravati Rakshana Samyukta Samiti along with other organizations in front of Deputy Commissioner’s office here, on March 17.

Speaking on this occasion, Lobo said, “Being a legislature from Dakshina Kannada district, I support this protest and I think it is the duty of the government to listen to our voice. Scientific and technical evaluation of this project is necessary and if it is proved after the evaluation that there is no harm to the Western Ghats and adequate water will be supplied to the dry parts of the state, then I will not oppose the project.”

Lobo further said that, “In order to supply water to Chikkaballapur, Kolar and Bengaluru, I propose that free flowing water can be diverted to the dry land from river Sharavati after power generation. Total irrigation of the coastal region should be done,” he added.
