MANGALORE: Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo said that initiative will be taken to restore the historic Light House located inside Tagore Park in the city.
Lobo visited the park and received a memorandum from LIFE Foundation, inspiring humanity, an association dealing with social concerns, here on Wednesday. Lobo said the park is situated right in the heart of the city and it was used by lot of people in the early days.
Gandhiji and Rabindranath Tagore had also visited this park earlier. The light house inside the park was used as a signal for the ships during those times. The PVS groups had earlier carried out the repair works of this park and handed it over to Mangalore City Corporation, but due to the negligence, this has been again gone to the extinct level, Lobo said.
There were sirens put up here every morning, afternoon and night, even that has stopped, he said adding that certain plans will be prepared to see that it will be restored back up to the extent possible. Lobo also said that steps will be taken to reconstruct the clock tower in the city. He further directed the engineers to do the needful.
