Mangaluru, Oct 15: With the view to develop the Kaikamba market local MLA J R Lobo and Nivedith Alva, the chairman of Coastal Development Authority (CDA), inspected the spot here on October 15.
Speaking to the reporters after inspecting the spot Lobo said “This is a famous fair in the city. Every Saturday fairs are conducted here and farmers from the rural areas come here to sell the vegetables grown by them. If we visit this market on Saturday, one would realize how famous this market is. Both customers and farmers are benefited through this fair. Customers get the vegetables and others products at less price where farmers also get better price. There is a need to develop this market by installing shelter, platform, interlocks and other facilities. In this regard I had requested Nivedith Alva to provide funds to develop this market. So he has come here to inspect the spot and responded positively. There is a land which belongs to old police station which will also be taken and this market will be developed. The whole redevelopment of this market will cost approximately Rs 2.5 crore. Coastal development authority will be contributing funds and rest will be pooled in by Mangaluru city corporation.”
Nivedith Alva said “Coastal development authority is now taking up development works in the coastal region. Developing of this market is a ideal project for the authority. MLA has been asking for this project from a long time so I have visited this spot. We will do our best for this project”.
Ex mayor Aziz said “From a long time people are demanding this and now Lobo has promised that this project will be done. People from throughout the city are benefited from the Saturday market. People can buy vegetables and other commodities at low price.”
