MANGALORE: Congress candidate B Janardhana Poojary filed nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections from the Dakshina Kannada parliamentary constituency on Wednesday on the last day of filing nominations.
Poojary, who arrived at the deputy commissioner’s office along with district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai, minister for health and family welfare UT Khader, Belthangady MLA K Vasanth Bangera and Mangalore City South MLA JR Lobo, submitted four sets of nomination papers with affidavits to returning officer and deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim at around 11.15am. The DC and ADC Sadashiva Prabhu received the application after preliminary verification.
Poojary, who lost to Nalin Kumar Kateel of BJP in the 2009 election for a margin of 40,420 votes, is contesting against the latter for the second time. Former Union minister of state for Finance in the Indira Gandhi government, was representing erstwhile Mangalore Lok Sabha constituency for four successive terms after winning elections in 1977, 1980, 1984 and 1989. In 1991 elections, Poojary lost to BJP candidate V Dhanajay Kumar.
