MANGALORE: Karavali Utsav, the event that showcases the culture and tradition of the Coastal part of the state, will be held in the second week of January, said Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim here on Tuesday.
At the meeting called to discuss about the Karavali Utsav here, Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo expressed his displeasure saying that the utsav was becoming commercial and limited to exhibition than fulfilling its actual objective.
He also questioned the rationale of holding a meeting a month before the utsav saying that the district administration should be prepared with plan of action a year in advance. District in charge minister B Ramanath Rai said that it was late this year, but next year onwards the dates will be decided in advance and preparations will be done accordingly.
This year, the utsav was proposed to be held December 27, but as the lone bidder had agreed for Rs 51 lakh in the first tender, he had reduced to Rs 45 lakh in the second tender; hence it was decided not to hold it. “Since district in charge minister has talked with the bidder to agree for the first bid amount it would be held in the second week of January,” said Ibrahim.
