Mangalore : Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo, on Tuesday, visited the Lady Goschen Hospital here and inspected the hospital facilities and the ongoing upgrade work of the hospital from 210 beds to 260 beds.
The upgrade of the hospital is being sponsored by the ONGC-MRPL at a cost of Rs 21.7 crore and the project is expected to be complete by next six to eight months, said the MLA expressing great satisfaction over the functioning of the hospital, which has been providing health care facilities to people coming from outside the district too.
He said that Centre For Excellence will be opened at the hospital to curb neonatal death and a blood unit component centre too will be set up here by former minister M Veerappa Moily shortly.
Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Shakunthala said that the hospital conducts free deliveries to economically backward women. While Maternity Mortality Rate is five per thousand mothers, the Infant Mortality Rate is zero.
While the management was happy with the governmental support, officials informed Lobo that water supply was a point of concern to which Lobo responded that the issue will be fixed immediately with the help of the Mangalore City Corporation.
Realizing the shortage of Group D workers, Lobo said that the issue will be taken with the state government and the issue will be solved at the earliest.
