MANGALURU: In an effort to help the poor, Mangaluru City South MLA JR Lobo handed over Rs 70,000 to renovate the house of Dayakar Bangera of Maroli, which was destroyed in the recent downpour.
The MLA, who had inspected the house a few days ago, had taken the responsibility of arranging funds to reconstruct their house. The MLA thanked the revenue department for acting swiftly and granting the money. Besides, several locals too came forward to help the family.
A few residents donated construction material to the family. Bangera had his legs amputated.
Vinay Mascarenhas, Santhosh and Vinod from Pumpwell, Abbas, a contractor, Protestants Association were among others who donated and supported the family.
Meanwhile, Lobo also handed over a cheque of Rs 12,600 to Rukmini of Boluru. Her house was damaged due to fire recently.
MLA arranged the cheque from Calamity Relief Fund (CRF). Representative from revenue department was present at the time.
