Speaking at a press conference, he said that the district Congress committee had appointed three spokespersons for the party – K Tharanath Shetty, Ivan D’Souza and Shahul Hameed, ahead of elections. Keeping in mind the secular principles of the party, the district committee has appointed a spokesperson – one each from Hindu, Christian and Muslim faiths, he said, adding that the party was dedicated to giving equal opportunities to people from all religions.

He said that the aim of the Congress party was to maintain communal harmony in the district. The inevitability of removing communal disharmony falls on the government, since there can be no development without peace and harmony in the region, he said.

The padayatras will be organized on March 14 in Mangalore, Mangalore South and North constituencies from Thokkottu to Kuloor; on March 15 in Bantwal constituency, March 16 in Moodbidri, March 17 at Belthangady, March 18 in Puttur and on March 19 at Sullia.
