Mangalore, May 8: Newcomer to politics, J R Lobo, has succeeded in annexing Mangalore (south) assembly constituency by defeating four- time MLA, former deputy speaker of the assembly, and former chairman of Karnataka State Small Scale Industries Development Corporation, N Yogish Bhat.

The revenge is sweet for the Congress, because the constituency, which was earlier held for consecutive terms by Blasius M D’Souza, was wrested by N Yogish Bhat in 1994, and who held on to it till now.

Addressing the media, a jubilant J R Lobo said that development of the constituency will be his priority. “In the last 20 years, this constituency has not developed as it should have. I will strive to develop it. This is for the first time that MLA seat here has gone to Congress, and I will do my best to live up to the expectations of the people.”

J R Lobo, a KAS officer who had worked as the head quarters assistant to the then deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, Bharat Lal Meena, commissioner of the local city corporation, and the deputy project director of KUDCEMP here, takes credit for making Pilikula Nisarga Dhama one of the tourist attractions of Dakshina Kannada by working as the director of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society for 18 years.

It is hoped that Lobo, with his rich administrative experience, will be able to put the development works in his constituency on fast pace and initiate steps to address the problems faced by the common people.
