Mangalore, Feb 2, 2014: DK District in-charge Minister and State Forest Minister B Ramanatha Rai inaugurated the 75th anniversary of the Dakshina Kannada District Madivalara Sangha at Nehru Maidan in the city on February 2, Sunday. He also declared open a Convention of members of the Madivala community organised to coincide with the occasion.

In his inaugural address, Rai exhorted members of the Madivala community to lay due emphasis on education which can lead to economic empowerment. He also asked the community members to evince interest in politics.
State Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader who was present as a chief guest lauded the contributions made by the Madivala community in various spheres.
A book entitled ‘ Paavade’ edited by Dr Vamana Nandavara was released on the occasion by Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel.
JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South, Moidin Bava, Mangalore North MLA, Dr Vamana Nandavara, Prof. Chandrakala Nandavara, Prakash B N,President of Dakshina Kannada District Madivalara Sangha, and several other leaders of the community were on the dais.
A memorandum highlighting the various demands of the association was handed over to the minister on the occasion. The memorandum has urged the government to name a circle in Mangalore after Sri Guru Machideva, due representation to Madivalas in politics, to include the community under SC category and to develop the birth place of Guru Machideva.
