Mangalore, Sep 24: The handing over ceremony of vermicompost bins was held at Government DEd Institute for Women, Balmatta, here, on Monday September 23.
The programme was inaugurated by Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo, along with other dignitaries.
Two vermicompost bins were handed over to the principal of DEd College and PU College.
The program was organized by Nisarga Foundation Charitable Trust and the bins were sponsored by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Indian Overseas Bank and Vijay Kumar, member of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Bangalore.
Information brochure on the use of vermicompost bins was released on the occasion by chief guest A C Vinayraj, corporator court ward.
Addressing the gathering, J R Lobo said, “This project will be successful if it is implemented in every house and institution and this can be possible if the pollution board and MCC together come forward to subsidize half of the production cost of these compost bins. Foreign countries are clean and tidy as the waste management is carried out by the one who produces the waste himself. If we follow the same pattern and technique in a responsible manner, a better waste segregation process can be carried out.”
K Vijay Kumar, member, KSPCB, Jayaprakash Nayak, senior scientific officer, KSPCB, Manjunath D, managing trustee, Nisarga Foundation, Vasudeva Kamath, principal, Government PU College for Women, Rajalakshmi K, Principal, Government DEd Institute for Women, Prem Chand, former corporator among others were present on the occasion.
