Mangaluru, Dec 1: ‘Ashellon’, the debut Konkani music album by Roshan Philip Rodrigues, was released at a ceremony held at Sandesha Kala Kendra here on Sunday November 30.
The album was released by MLA J R Lobo, Dubai-based entrepreneur Frank Fernandes, renowned singer Melwyn Peris, Konkani Sahitya Academy president chief guest Roy Castelino, Bendore parish priest Fr Antony Serrao, Sandesha director Fr Vijay Victor Lobo and Fr Richard Coelho.
Addressing the gathering, Frank Fernandes said that he had recently met Roshan Rodrigues during the Gulf Voice of Mangalore (GVOM) Season 4 in Muscat. “Roshan was disappointed and sad that he did not win, and I tried to console him. Failure is not everything, we have to learn from our failures, I told him. From then on, our friendship grew. In our times we had come from a poor backgroud and we had dedication and talent to do something in life. I wish Roshan all success in his future endeavours.”
Melwyn Peris congratulated Roshan and said, “When I saw him during GVOM, I saw courage in him. It is very difficult to launch a CD, I know the hard work and dedication that goes into it. We normally buy one CD and then copy it to computer and share with others. Instead, we should but the CDs and encourage the artistes. I wish Roshan all success. He should have entered the industry early, but he can still achieve success.”
Fr Antony Serrao said, “I feel happy and proud to be here. It is heartening to see a person from Madanthyar achieve this feat. God gives us talent, but we have to use it in the right way and improve on it. Practice makes man perfect. Different people have different talents, and one should discover one’s talent.” He too wished good luck and success to Roshan.
A few songs from the album were performed on the occasion. Prajoth D’Sa sang the title song ‘Ashellon’ while Roshan rendered ‘Koto Somsar’. ‘Friction’ crew danced to the tunes of ‘Suzana’ and ‘Hai Hai’.
Fr Vijay Victor Lobo led the prayer and blessed the occasion. Roshan Rodrigues welcomed the gathering.
Roshan Castelino compered the event.
Loy Saldanha of PMV Productions, who has provided the music for the album, and others were present.
