Mangaluru, 23 June 2015: MLA J R Lobo in response to protest here on Monday June 22 said that about 1,200 applications are received by the municipal body, while the process of sanctioning the housing site under Ashraya Programme will begin shortly.
CPI (M) staged a protest at the entrance of MLA Lobo’s office building here on Monday morning, regarding Ashraya housing issue.
Ashraya Committee has convened several meetings in this regard. A blue print has been prepared for multistory building on state-owned land of 11 acres at Kannur here at the model of G+2, with 1BR/Hall/Kitchen/toilet for each eligible family. At the first stage, 500 homeless families who had submitted their applications will be selected shortly. Each house will cost about Rs 4 lac, while the government will contribute Rs 1.20 lac, civic body will contribute Rs 20,000 and the rest of money will have to be borne by the beneficiaries by availing bank loans, added MLA Lobo.
