Mangaluru, 25 Nov 2014: Konkani’s famed Yodeling King singer Melvyn Peris presented his one-hundredth musical concert to the packed audiences at St Agnes Special School grounds, Bendore, here on Sunday November 23 evening. It was sponsored by NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Colaco.
Mangalore bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza was the chief guest of the occasion.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo, MLC Ivan D’Souza, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino, Rohan Corporation chairman Rohan Monteiro, Daijiworld Media Private Limited CEO Walter Nandalike, Leo Rodrigues Abu Dhabi, Michael D’Souza Dubai, Konkani Myna Meena Rebimbus, Sangeet Samrat Henry D’Souza Mumbai, Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario, Angelore parish priest Fr Mathew Vaz, Mangalore diocesan ICYM director Fr Ronald D’Souza were present on the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, Walter Nandalike lauded Melvyn’s grit and courage in overcoming all odds of life in presenting his historical one-hundredth shows at Bendore, here, witnessed by packed audiences at the venue. He also said Melvyn is at par with Konkani Kogul the late Wilfy Rebimbus in terms of their extraordinary contributions to Konkani music, said Walter.
The bishop Dr Aloysius felicitated both Konkani Sangeet Samrat Joel Pereira and Yoddling King Melvyn Peris for their extraordinary contributions to Konkani music and devotional singing.
Leo Rodrigues released ‘Sophia’ DVD of Melvyn Peris, while MLC Ivan released ‘Ta…ram…pam’ CD of Melvyn Peris and Michael D’Souza released ‘Melodia’ MP3 CD of Melvyn Peris on the same occasion.
Melvyn presented the first song ‘Turbent..’ followed by song ‘Chinta’ sixty-seven-year-old Dr Aparna Mayakar, an accomplished singer and longtime associate of Melvyn to the thunderous applauses.
Ronnie Crasta from Cordel parish presented the song ‘Sophia’, followed by song ‘Ahimsa’ by Reena D’Souza Mumbai and song ‘Chandrem Udela’ by Zeena Pereira.
The show was disrupted at this moment because of untimely rains whilst the audiences rushed homes, although rains receded after a short while.
It may be recalled that rain had disrupted the seventy-fifth show of Melvyn Peris held at St Aloysius College grounds, a few years ago.
Kushali comedy group comprising Gerry, Kenny and Ossie enthralled the audiences with jokes.
Melvyn Peris welcomed the gathering. Leslie Rego, Gerald Rasquinha and Titus Noronha compered the event. Konkani Prachar Sanchalan president Sheldon Crasta proposed vote of thanks.
