Mangaluru, Nov 11: Deepawali, the festival of lights was clebrated in a unique way with the school children in the presence of Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo at circuit house on November 10.

The programme was inaugurated by the trustee of Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple H S Sairam by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dias.

Speaking at the occasion J R Lobo said “I wish a very happy Deepawali to all. Deepawali is not only celebrated in India but in all parts of the world where Indians reside. This is not a festival that only Hindus celebrate. This is a feast for all Indians. The message of this feast is taking our lives from darkness to light. At this auspicious day I want to convey the message to all people that we should not listen to the people who conspire to divide the society. we should all live in peace and harmony. Let us all get lights of peace and happiness in our lives. People of coastal region are known to be educated and we should keep the same lead. Only by peace and harmony we can develop our city.”
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kripa Alva, Chairperson of state children right protection commission said “The feast of Deepawali signifies the win of good over evil. Darkness and light, both lie in our hearts. We need to remove the darkness and let the light shine forever. You children are the future of our nation. You should light your lives by moving forward in life and shine bright by making our country proud.”

Youth Congress leader Tejashwi Raj welcomed the gathering while Denis D’Silva delivered the vote of thanks.
The programme was followed by Yakshagana performance.

MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Vishwas Kumar Das, Mohammed Masood, Ex mayor Mahabala Maarla, Beary sahitya academy president Hanif, Prakash salian, Radakrishna and others were present.
