Mangalore, 8 Oct 2014: The state minister for forests/ecology and Dakshina Kannada (DK) district in-charge minister B Ramanat Rai launched ’Kerosene Free City’ campaign at municipal headquarters by pouring water to a plant in the pot, here on Wednesday October 8.
The minster Rai addressing the gathering gave a call to avail the benefit of the campaign.
He said, ‘It’s an environment-friendly project. Camps will be set up to distribute LPG gas. I wish all people avail this facility within the month,’ said minister Rai.
He later on distributed the LPG kits to 6 of the beneficiaries.
Mangalore south MLA J R Lobo congratulated the civic body, the bank and gas company involved in this project.
The Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim who spoke on the occasion, briefed as how one can get the benefit of the campaign.
This campaign has been launched to make the city kerosene free and hence reduce the environmental pollution by providing more efficient LPG to every household. In this regard, special campaign will be organised on October 8, 9, 18 and 19. Those who are availing kerosene oil through ration cards, LPG gas connections will be provided from 10.00am to 4.30pm.
The project will cost Rs 4,000 per household. Leading banks including SCDCC Bank have come forward to provide loans to purchase gas kits. The main aim is to provide LPG connections to each house. People can pay Rs 200 as every month instalments (EMIs). But to avail the loan, customers will have to submit documents to the bank and have to possess a bank account.
