Congress candidate for Dakshina Kananda Lok Sabha constituency, B Janardhan Poojary who had reserved his nomination filing process for the last day, filed the nomination on Wednesday with Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim.
Though he had earlier announced that nomination filing will be a simple affair and reiterated the same even after filing the nomination, a large number of Congress workers had gathered at the deputy commissioner’s office premises to greet the candidate.
He was accompanied by two ministers and two MLAs – B Ramanath Rai, U T Khader, Vasanth Bangera and J R Lobo, while filing the nomination paper. Janardhan Poojary submitted four sets of nomination papers to the Returning Officer.
Later, speaking to mediapersons, Poojary said that all the party workers, leaders and ministers are enthusiastically campaigning for the party’s victory in Dakshina Kannada constituency.
“The country needs Congress at the moment. We do not need those who divide the nation on the basis of caste and community. We will take everybody together,” he said.
He also said that this election is a straight fight between the Congress and BJP’s prime ministerial nominee, Narendra Modi.
The fight put up by the parties like the JD(S) will not be considered. Before filing the nomination, Poojary offered pooja at Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara temple and visited Ullal Dargah and Milagres Church to seek blessings.
