Mangaluru, 05 Apr 2015: Ramakrishna Mission carried out Swacch Mangaluru for Swacch Bharath – cleanliness drive on tenth consecutive Sunday on April 5 at Circuit House, Kadri Hills, here.
The drive was inaugurated by Dharmendra Pradhan, union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas, in the presence of Swami Jitakamananda of Ramakrishna mutt, here, DK district MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru south MLA J R Lobo, MLA, MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, former state minister Krishna Palemar, former MLAi Yogish Bhat, MRPL managing director Kumar and other eminent persons.
The students of Government First Grade College, Car Street, employees of MRPL, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, members of VV Cricket Association, members of ISIRI Arts and other devotees and well-wishers of the Ashram took an active part in the drive.
The union minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the gathering for a few minutes and lauded the efforts of Mangaloreans in their contribution towards the nation. He also opined that Swacch Bharath Abhiyan should become a Mass movement to ensure a clean and green nation. He appreciated the initiative of Ramakrishna Mission in this regard and asked people to join hands.
A bus stand was renovated opposite Kadri police station. The low-areas in the bus stand were filled up, and seats were fixed for the benefit of the people, the bus stand saw a facial lift after beautification and painting. Damaged vehicles near police station were vacated and the space was cleaned to facilitate car parking. Circuit house premises were thoroughly cleaned up and thousands of used and damaged bottles were recovered and disposed. Volunteers tidied up the four corners of Kadri Hills circle and the students of Ramakrishna Mission Balakashram distributed the handbills of awareness literature.
This is a part of the 40-weeks Cleanliness Drive being organized by the Ramakrishna Mission and initiated on February 1.
