Mangaluru : Mangalore City Corporation is all set to upgrade the road between Bunts Hostel Junction and Ambedkar Circle into a four-lane concrete road. The project is expected to finish within six months.
MCC Mayor Mahabala Maarla performed ‘guddali pooja’ for the works on Tuesday, November 4.
After kick starting the road works, Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo said that contractor Bhandarkars Constructions had agreed to undertake the work at Rs 1.94 crore.
“When upgraded the road will be 14 metres wide including the median. The footpaths will be laid on either sides of the road and it would measure about 1.5 metres each. Beneath the footpath the storm water drain will be laid. During construction process, one side of the road will be completely closed while the other side will be open for traffic,” an engineer said.
With this, the city buses and other vehicles plying from Jyoti Circle towards Bunts’ Hostel will now move via Balmatta-Mallikatte. Meanwhile, vehicles plying from Bunts’ Hostel to Jyoti Circle will use the road as a one way.
All private buses plying towards Udupi will move via K S Rao Road. Similarly, buses coming from Udupi towards Mangalore will reach Hampankatta via Nantoor-Balmatta-Jyoti.
KSRTC buses travelling outside Mangalore will move via Bunts’ Hostel-Jyoti Circle. KSRTC buses moving towards the KSRTC bus stop will either travel through Bendorewell-Mallikatte-Bunts’ Hostel-PVS or KPT-Kuntikana.
These new traffic rules will be effective from November 4 until the work is done (estimated finish date Dec 31), stated a release.
